Resume Tips

What are the two most important parts of your resume? Your name and phone number.

The most commonly held misconception is that a resume will get you the interview or the job. This only happens when an interviewer ‘cattle calls' every resume on their desk so that they appear busy to their employer. If the interviewer doesn't prioritize their time with you, how can you expect them to match you with the right job?

So, what are the real steps?

  1. You send your resume in response to an advertisement or in hopes of working for the company.
  2. The resume either does or doesn't get you a phone call. Fix My Resume.
  3. If it does, then it is your turn to shine. The phone call is what gets you the interview. That is what you want to accomplish here so don't try to get the job, go for the interview.
  4. The interview- if this company only has a one-interview process then this interview is to get the job. If the company has a two or more interview process then the goal is to get another interview.
  5. Send a thank-you card. Follow up when you say you will follow up. Ask questions that need answers so that if an offer does come you have the necessary information to say yes or no, or yes if…(the ‘if' being ‘if there will be three weeks vacation, if the benefits are…') Just so you know how rare thank-you cards are...In 9 years I have received 2 and both people got hired!!!
